“Yoga taught me how to be still, how to listen to my body and how to savor those moments when the breath is all you need.”

I found yoga, or more accurately yoga found me, a little less than two years ago. I was nursing a running injury, burnt out on boot camp and trying to find something new for my ever-changing, stimulation-seeking self. For whatever reason, I took a leap of faith on “30 days of heated vinyasa yoga for $30” and was immediately hooked, but for all unexpected reasons.Heated vinyasa did a few things for me that I hope I can do for you as your teacher. It gave me a precious hour that was uninterrupted to be used however I needed. Yoga also gave me a physical challenge that tapped into both the strength and the stretch – something severely lacking in many fitness approaches. Yoga made me sweat and then, made me surrender.

“Yoga taught me how to be still, how to listen to my body and how to savor those moments when the breath is all you need.”

As you’ll soon learn, quiet and Katie don’t exist in the same sentence. Yet, yoga taught me how to be still, how to listen to my body and how to savor those moments when the breath is all you need. Yoga became what my body craved and every day I returned to my mat, knowing there would be some structure, but also a fresh, new challenge for my body and my mind.

Teaching has always been a common thread in my life. Professionally, I work as an occupational therapist helping teenagers and young adults re-learn how to live their day-to-day life with a spinal cord injury. I also teach first year graduate students about various medical conditions to prepare them for careers in the same field. Now, I have the opportunity to combine my passion for teaching, love for yoga and understanding of the human body here at Yonder!

“My classes are high energy, creative and playful because no matter what, life is too short to take yourself too seriously.”

I believe in thoughtful and dynamic sequencing that targets specific musculature to help you become stronger and move deeper into poses. I love a good challenge and my classes will reflect that – and let’s be real, it makes savasana that much sweeter. Get excited for some killer music and some sequences that will make you sweat!
