Like many former dancers, yoga was the perfect transition for me from college into the real world– it gave me 60 minutes a day of movement, helped me to maintain my balance and flexibility, and connected me with people in my city. Over the years, my yoga practice evolved from giving me what I wanted (exercise, community, etc.) to what I needed in my life. With the help of many great yoga teachers, fellow yogis, and my 200-hour YTT through Yonder Athens, I learned that what I practice during each yoga class I take directly correlates with what I need to work on outside of the studio. I’ve learned that a cleansing breath isn’t just helpful after a tough core segment, but it helps me to regulate my emotions in my everyday life too. I’ve found that when I push through my fear of doing a scary new inversion balance, I start to gain the courage to face my fears and anxieties outside of the studio. My goal as a yoga teacher is to help instill these cross functioning practices in your life too, and to discover new poses and have fun along the way!
